Lightlife Smokey Tempeh Fakin' Bacon
LIGHTLIFE
SMOKY TEMPEH FAKIN' BACON STRIPS
WHAT IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE: Vegan bacon.
FIRST BITE THOUGHTS: OMG.
SECOND BITE SMACKDOWN: Okay, so. They're really tasty: there's a smoky element (duh) that definitely isn't observed in a lot of vegan foods. If you're familiar with tempeh, you're going to die. If you're not, the somewhat flimsy texture might get you.
NUTRITIONALLY SPEAKING: Tempeh is an Indonesian cultured and fermented soy product that vegans love for its high protein content. Four slices of these strips net you 140 calories, 12g of protein, and 9% of your daily iron needs.
PAIR IT WITH: Breakfast, salads, sandwiches, wraps.
FINAL THOUGHTS: They're more fragile than my ego--I ripped two strips in half just trying to open the package--but, despite looking like fancy dog food, they're totally delicious.
